Welcome to the San Joaquin Valley Alumnae Chapter

Sisterhood * Scholarship * Service * Social Action
Message From the President
Greetings, and welcome to the official website of the San Joaquin Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated!
On behalf of the San Joaquin Valley Alumnae Chapter, I am honored and humbled to serve as Chapter President. It is my privilege to build upon the legacy of our Founders and Charter Members and RISE — Rooted in Sisterhood and Service Excellence.
The San Joaquin Valley Alumnae Chapter (SJVAC) has a proud history of service and impact throughout the Central Valley. Chartered on June 19, 1980, by twelve phenomenal women who recognized the need for a local chapter, they came together in sisterhood to promote academic excellence, aid those in need, and address critical social issues. From their vision, SJVAC has grown into an award-winning chapter serving Fresno County, the State of California, and beyond.
Through Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s Five Programmatic Thrusts — Economic Development, Educational Development, Physical and Mental Health, International Awareness and Involvement, and Political Awareness and Involvement — and with a strong focus on Social Action, our chapter remains deeply committed to developing programs that engage, uplift, and strengthen the communities we serve.
Our work is reflected in the programs and initiatives we proudly lead:
- Economic Development: Hosting financial literacy workshops, raising awareness of Black-owned businesses, and promoting entrepreneurship within the community.
- Educational Development: Guided by Delta Sigma Theta’s public motto, “Intelligence is the Torch of Wisdom,” leads youth initiatives such as Delta GEMS and the High School African American Recognition Program (AARP). For over 32 years, AARP has celebrated graduates and, with community partners, awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to expand college access.
- International Awareness and Involvement: Providing education and resources addressing issues such as human trafficking, domestic violence, and period poverty, while extending our impact globally.
- Physical and Mental Health: Offering programs that promote holistic well-being, including breast cancer and vaccine awareness, as well as mental health and social-emotional supports for youth post-COVID.
- Political Awareness & Involvement: Through our Social Action Commission and service as Voter Choice Act (VCA) Ambassadors with the California Secretary of State, we lead voter registration drives, ballot education, and civic engagement initiatives.
Amid providing these programs to the community, the core of all we do is sisterhood. Strengthening our bond as sisters allows us to serve with excellence and unity of purpose, ensuring that our programs and initiatives reflect both compassion and commitment.
I encourage you to visit our website regularly to stay informed about our programs, scholarships, events, and fundraising activities. You can also connect with us on social media — @sjvadeltas on Instagram and San Joaquin Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on Facebook — for updates and opportunities to partner with our chapter.
Finally, to my Sorors in the Fresno area: If you are new to the community or seeking a chapter home, I warmly invite you to consider the San Joaquin Valley Alumnae Chapter. Here, we are committed to one another and to the community as we RISE — Rooted in Sisterhood and Service Excellence.
With a Serving Heart,
Winnie Fletcher
