Message From the President

Greetings,

On behalf of the members of the San Joaquin Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. welcome to the official website.

With a small but mighty membership, our goal, first and foremost, is to serve the needs of the community. I am humbled to serve as President of this dynamic chapter. This sorority year we are committed to “Building on the Legacy of Excellence to Empower, Serve and L.E.A.D!”

Chartered in June 1980 by 12 forward-thinking members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the San Joaquin Valley Alumnae Chapter has consistently made a positive impact in the Fresno County area for decades. As an award-winning chapter, our members strive to LEAD – Listen, Engage, and Actively Deliver to the residents of Fresno County, as well as the state of California, the nation, and beyond.

Through our Sorority’s Programmatic Thrusts – (a) Economic Development, (b) Educational Development, (c) Physical and Mental Health, (d) International Awareness and Involvement and (e) Political Awareness and Involvement — and with a keen focus on social action, San Joaquin Valley Alumnae Chapter consistently engages the communities we serve to increase awareness and provide beneficial and impactful programs to all.

Our local involvement includes, among many programs, our Economic Development financial workshops and entrepreneurial programs through which we seek to empower individual and small businesses.

Education is  also key to a thriving community. Through our Educational Development programs of Delta GEMS, Delta Academy, as well as our High School African American Recognition Program (AARP) where we have provided hundreds of scholarships to high school graduates, our chapter has provided resources to thousands of brilliant minds.

As we listen and engage, we hear the global needs around the world. Our organization actively provides resources globally, while also providing education regarding HIV/AIDS testing and prevention through our International Awareness and Involvement Committee.

Our Physical and Mental Health Committee presents programs on improving one’s mental health through activities geared towards mental, emotional and physical well-being. Annual 5K walks/runs in partnership with other Divine Nine service organizations and community partners provide physical activities while contributing financial support to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and others.

In addition, our Political Awareness and Involvement and Social Action initiatives include political forums and voter registration and education drives.

As a sisterhood devoted to public service, we also take time to fellowship and enjoy the arts and social activities.. We hope you will consider joining us at our annual community and cultural events in the future. Please be sure to return to our website often for information regarding our program, scholarship, community and fundraising activities. I also encourage you to follow us on social media.
